Gregor Oehlmann Profilbild Schwarz Weiß

Gregor Oehlmann was born on September 17,1996. in Göttingen, Germany. He came into contact with music since his early childhood. At age five Gregor began playing flute until he discovered the saxophone at the age of nine. He gained a lot of experience in various musical projects with several different genres, reaching from Big Bands and Jazz Quartets over Pop and soul to Funk and Hiphop Bands. What started out with Blues, R ́n ́B and Funk later lead to his interest in Jazz. During his middle and high school time he was part of a local Bigband, as the lead alto saxophone player, that was playing yearly at jazz festivals and won contests for uprising musicians. At 16 Gregor was taught by New York Tenor Saxophonist Adam Larson and German saxophonist Lars Stoermer before he started his jazz and saxophone studies at the Conservatorium van Maastricht in the Netherlands with Claudius Valk and Reiner Witzel in 2016.
Gregor Played in various Bigband projects led by John Beasley (Composer for James Brown, Miles Davis),  Dennis Mackrel and John Clayton (Member of the Count Basie Orchestra), Rob Bruynen (Trumpeter of the WDR Bigband) and others. 2019 he played at the North Sea Jazz Festival  together with the Fringe Orchestra.


On the 1st of march 2020 Gregor Oehlmann was broadcasted on the National Radio Station “NPO Jazz“ of the Netherlands, as well as appearing in National TV as the Saxophonist of Tizaan Alphonso.
 
Gregors saxophone sound has a unique dark and full color due to his influence from multiple musical styles. His main Influences are Maceo Parker, Eric Marienthal, Chris potter, Bob Reynolds, Jan Gabarek and Dexter Gordon.
